Where do we begin and end?
Do Frontiers and Borders define us?

A global series of barrier-breaking, ceramic-based exhibits in Tehran, Paris, Istanbul, Tokyo and Pompano Beach.

The AD Visual Academy of Art in Iran has invited artists and curators around the world to explore these questions simultaneously with them using the ceramic medium, in hopes of spreading understanding and empathetic curiosity. • Addressing local, regional, and international concerns
• Utilizing ceramics in its extended field in order to recognize, and apply its potential in the field of fine arts/Push clay past its 'craft' role

In these series of exhibitions, artists are encouraged use mixed-media such as painting, photography, and videography, to compliment the inclusion of ceramics, when creating a piece.

This Academy has held an annual exhibitions featuring ceramics, which aims at attracting the artists’ attention to this medium. The 2017 "Frontier" exhibition was first held in Khaneh-Honarmandan, Tehran, one of the most prestigious art centers in Iran from July 20th - August 3rd.

September 7 Blackberry Smoke
Blackberry Smoke and The Chris Robinson Brotherhood will take the stage at The Pompano Beach Amp for an exciting concert produced by AEG Presents. Expanding the Southern rock tradition, Blackberry Smoke has evolved from a rough-edged club act to arena-ready rock ‘n’ roll juggernauts. While the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, led by the ex-Black Crowes front man, are considered the new standard-bearers of the psychedelic roots torch.

Blackberry Smoke has never been a band that stands still. Whether pursuing thedream by logging hundreds of thousands of miles on America’s highways and abroad or relentlessly exploring the many facets of its most unique art form, the Atlanta quintet is always on the move.

The songs on Blackberry Smoke’s sixth album, Like an Arrow, due October 14, show just how far this authentic American rock band has come as the accomplished group of musicians tackles a diverse set of new ideas, sounds and territories, long after most bands with half the success might have settled into a well-worn groove.

“We’re all likeminded in that we all want to explore,” singer and principal songwriter Charlie Starr said. “There’s just no way we could make the same record over and over again, though there are some fans who would like us to. That’s just way too formulaic. If the Beatles or Led Zeppelin did that, we wouldn’t love them as much.”

Like An Arrow continues the trend of sonic exploration established on the Blackberry Smoke’s previous two releases, 2012’s The Whippoorwill and 2015’s chart-topping Holding All the Roses. It kicks off with the band’s heaviest song to date and explores British rock before moving on to musical stops in places like Macon, Woodstock, Muscle Shoals and Tulsa as Starr and his buddies follow the ramblin’ examples of timeless, authentic acts like The Allman Brothers Band, JJ Cale, The Band and others who define rock ‘n’ roll in all its many facets.

“We just want the sound of the band to continue to grow and broaden. We’re not trying to make a hip-hop record,” Starr said with a laugh. “But there’s so many elements to what people call rock. There’s gospel and country and swing and blues. We’re just trying to write songs that include all those different types of elements. It keeps it interesting for musicians and songwriters.

You think, ‘Well, I don’t have a straitjacket on, I haven’t painted myself into a corner, so I can try and just make the most of this art form.’” That’s what Starr, Paul Jackson (guitar), Brandon Still (keyboards), Brit Turner (drums) and Richard Turner (bass) have been doing for 16 years now after forming in 2001. The quintet’s blue-collar work ethic, road-dog attitude – the band averages 250 shows a year – and willingness to jam all night long have left Blackberry Smoke with a grassroots fan base that continues to grow show by show.

Holding All the Roses, produced by Grammy Award winner Brendan O’Brien, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and No. 7 on the Rock Albums chart, proof of the band’s universality. Praised by fellow artists as diverse as Dierks Bentley and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Blackberry Smoke now delivers an album that should invite even more fans under its revival tent.

The Chris Robinson Brotherhood emerged in 2011 by playing close to 50 shows over nine weeks in California before ever leaving the Golden State or officially releasing music. Their introduction on the national stage came in 2012 when they’d release not one, but two acclaimed full-length albums within a few months of each other.

Critics hailed their sprawling debut, Big Moon Ritual, as a revelation, with The Independent raving that Robinson had “finally found the ideal vehicle to indulge his taste for ‘Cosmic California Music.'” The reviews were similarly ecstatic for its immediate follow-up, The Magic Door, which was praised by Relix as “classic rock in the finest sense.”

In 2014, they returned to the studio for Phosphorescent Harvest, a masterful collection that showcased the blossoming songwriting partnership between Robinson and Neal Casal. Rolling Stone raved that the album was “electrifying…boast[ing] a vintage rock vibe that’s at once quirky, trippy, soulful and downright magnetic,” and Guitar World called it “a treasure trove of soul that advances the band’s bluesy, kaleidoscopic sound.”

Writing, recording and creating at a compelling clip, while performing an ever-growing number of sold out shows across the U.S., Robinson is as energized as he’s ever been in what’s already been a long and historic career as one of rock music’s most prolific and successful songwriters and frontmen. Joined by guitarist Neal Casal, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bassist Jeff Hill and drummer Tony Leone, The CRB (as they are affectionally known to fans), are on the verge of their most inspired and prolific year yet.

September 19 Sammy Hagar and the Circle w/ Collective
The Pompano Beach Amp and AEG Live are proud to present Sammy Hagar, one of rock music’s most dynamic frontmen and acclaimed songwriters, in concert with his new band The Circle and touring with Collective Soul.

As a multiplatinum-selling solo artist and frontman for iconic bands including Montrose and Van Halen, with whom he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Haggar has sold more than 50 million albums and influenced the sound of rock music for more than four decades. His newest supergroup The Circle, features Michael Anthony, the renowned bassist who’s played with him for the past 30 years in bands including Van Halen and Chickenfoot; Jason Bonham, the acclaimed drummer and son of Led Zeppelin’s iconic drummer, John Bonham; and Vic Johnson, Hagar’s longtime guitar virtuoso who seamlessly shreds through his own, as well as some of rock’s most iconic guitarist’s riffs.

Formed in 2014, The Circle has thrilled audiences and critics alike with their live concerts, with USA Today remarking, “from the first thunderous notes … it’s apparent that this machine is firing on all cylinders.” The foursome rip through a set list of 40 years of Hagar’s epic rock anthems including Rock Candy, There’s Only One Way To Rock, Finish What Ya Started, Right Now and I Can’t Drive 55, as well as some classic Led Zeppelin jams like Whole Lotta Love, When the Levee Breaks and Moby Dick.

Remarking on the group’s setlist, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram said, “The Circle is a quartet capable of drawing upon some of the most indelible rock music of the last 40 years.” The band’s live DVD, At Your Service” recorded during their first North American tour, debuted at No. 2 on SoundScan’s chart – a testament to the strength of the band’s live shows.

Collective Soul broke into mainstream popularity when they rose to international fame in 1993 with the rock anthem “Shine.” The multi-platinum quintet has helped shape and define alternative rock with lots of guitars and attitude for the last two decades and has a catalog of #1 hits under their belt, including “Shine,” “December,” “The World I Know,” “Precious Declaration,” and “Heavy.”

The band released their long-awaited ninth album, See What You Started By Continuing in October 2015. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Alternative Album chart, marking the band’s highest charting position in their illustrious career. The band has been back in the studio working on their 10th album, which is set for release in early 2018.

Jazz great Wynton Marsalis has hailed Marcus Roberts as “the genius of modern piano”. The jazz virtuoso has been profiled on 60 Minutes, Charlie Rose, Tavis Smiley, NPR and more.

See him live in concert with jazz greats Jason Marsalis and Rodney Jordan

The Marcus Roberts Trio is known for its virtuosic style and entirely new approach to jazz trio performance. While most jazz trios have the piano front and center, all members of the Marcus Roberts Trio share equally in shaping the direction of the music by changing its tempo, mood, texture, or form at any time. And they do this with lightning quick musical reflexes and creative imaginations. The trio is known for having almost telepathic communication on the stage. And more than a few concert goers have been heard to say that it sounds like a lot more than three people up there on the stage!

Marcus Roberts lost his sight as a child, but gained incredible insight into American music — inspiring a generation of jazz musicians. Wynton Marsalis is the correspondent on CBS “60 Minutes”

In this politically fraught and tumultuous time, it is imperative that humanity be free to unite and connect to forge dynamic, artistic discourse.
Goals of the project:
• Comparing borders and frontiers in the contemporary world
• Cultivating connection with global artists and their works

The Academy has also invited a group of international curators to collaborate on the topic, and called for artists in various countries to hold exhibitions featuring their interpretations of the theme.

List of curators in the international section of the exhibits:
1. U.S.A.: Sarah Miller Benichou, Bailey Contemporary Arts, Sept 1-29
2. Japan: Ruriku & Shigaraki Gallery, date TBC
3. Turkey: Seren Kohen, date TBC
4. France: Jacques Kaufmann, date TBC
