August 1 Video Skills for Creatives: Streaming from the Studio
Learn how to use your studio time to connect with audiences, share expertise, build community and discover buyers all while making art in the studio. Dimitry Chamy, designer, artist and faculty mentor at FIU's Ratcliffe Art + Design Incubator, will instruct this three-hour workshop on live video techniques, programs and equipment for creatives. Video Skills for Creatives is a series of free workshops presented by Broward Cultural Division with funding provided by PNC Bank.

August 1 A Taste of Jazz
Join us for a new kind of combo! A Taste of Jazz at Bailey Contemporary Arts will feature entertaining and educational encounters with the musical genre, accompanied by wine tastings located in an intimate art gallery setting. The introduction to jazz series will showcase the musicians of the Gold Coast Jazz Society Band, under the direction of Martin Hand.

The sessions will take place from 7-9 pm on March 7, April 4, May 2, June 6, July 11 (due to the July 4th Holiday, the July event is the second Thursday), August 1, September 5, 2019. Tickets $10-$20 per event.

“A Taste of Jazz is a fun way to learn more about the celebrated musical genre without feeling intimidated or overwhelmed,” said Jody Leshinsky, Cultural Venues Programming Manager. “So many people want to learn more about this original American art form but do not know where to begin. We created this event series for them! And by adding wine tastings from local vendors, it will truly become a fun-filled social event.”

The Gold Coast Jazz Society has been a major presenter of jazz concerts, jazz education and jazz outreach programs in Broward County since 1992. They have maintained and preserved the heritage of jazz by presenting the music celebrating jazz's evolution over the past 100 years.

August 2 Old Town Untapped
Old Town Untapped is a monthly craft beer and arts festival hosted by the Pompano Beach CRA and features free samples of local beers crafted by breweries in Pompano Beach's emerging craft beer scene. In addition the streets of Old Town are lined with food trucks, artists, crafters and interactive art. Inside Bailey Contemporary Arts, guests can grab some locally roasted coffee at Blooming Bean Coffee Roasters and walk through the galleries rotating art exhibits each month.

The Symphony of the Americas 31st Anniversary season celebration continues, with its acclaimed summer music festival presenting one month of performances throughout Florida and the Americas featuring internationally acclaimed guest artists from around the globe. As the longest running music festival in Florida, the masterful sounds of Summerfest’s Chamber Orchestra will reach audiences in corners of the world who have never before experienced the exhilaration of live orchestral performance.

August 2 Marcos Conde Solo Exhibition Opening Reception
2019 ArtLit live painting competition winner Marcos Conde is featuring his work in a solo exhibition at BaCA's West Gallery. Marcos Conde is a South Florida based artist that develops art and design for a diverse set of clients. His focus is in developing art projects that display the aspects of nature and the use of a vibrant appearance.

August 3 Life Drawing Studio
Life Drawing, also referred to as Figure Drawing, is the best and quickest way to improve your drawing skills and your visual perception. Life drawing trains your eye to catch things that photos do not show. Therefore learning to master figure drawing is more than bones and muscles, it is about the subtle differences and minor details such as weight-bearing and positioning that translates to all forms.

We are excited to be able to bring this opportunity to all artists through our new Life Drawing Studio at Bailey Contemporary Arts in the City of Pompano Beach.

During this 2-hour session, live models pose draped for short "gesture" as well as longer poses. This program is ideal for individuals interested in portrait painting, character design, illustration, animation, anatomical drawing, however ALL artists benefit from Life Drawing sessions.

Artists are invited to bring their own materials and supplies.

This activity doesn’t provide formal instruction; participants work at their own pace and in their preferred medium.

August 31 Staged Play Reading - "For Colored Girls"
For Colored Girls... tells the stories of seven women who have suffered oppression in a racist and sexist society. The piece is a series of 20 separate poems choreographed to music that weaves interconnected stories of love, empowerment, struggle and loss into a complex representation of sisterhood. The cast consists of seven nameless African-American women only identified by the colors they are assigned. They are the lady in red, lady in orange, lady in yellow, lady in green, lady in blue, lady in brown, and lady in purple. Subjects from rape, abandonment, abortion and domestic violence are tackled. Join us for a great night of theater and conversation.
