Sophia Lacroix, a Haitian-born artist who migrated to Florida in 1984, has built a distinguished career blending her passion for art with her full-time work in social services. A self-taught artist, she creates vibrant, hyper-realistic oil paintings and charcoal drawings inspired by nostalgic memories of Haiti. Over nearly 30 years, she has gained recognition through awards, exhibitions, and numerous publications, including a mural commissioned by the City of Miami and displayed at the Little Haiti Cultural Center. Her work, which often highlights the strength of Haitian people and the innocence of children, has been showcased in cities across the U.S. and earned her accolades such as "Artist of the Year" in 2007. Lacroix has also participated in significant projects like the City of North Miami's public art initiative and received notable commissions, including a painting on display at the FIU College of Medicine. In 2022, she won "Best in Show" at the City of Pembroke Pines' Art Competition, and in 2023, she was honored with a solo exhibition at the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood. Recognized as a history maker by the City of North Miami in 2024, Lacroix’s work continues to captivate with its vivid, realistic portrayals of everyday life.
