August 19 South Florida Theater League Summer Theatre Fest Play Reading
The South Florida Theatre League is excited to announce the return of Summer Theatre Fest, a summer play reading series featuring new works by local playwrights at member organizations each Monday evening at various theaters throughout the South Florida region concluding with the annual Remy Awards on August 26. On August 19, The Shakespeare Troupe presents the play reading of Quoting Shakespeare - short plays derived from the Bard’s words.

August 20 Lunch with Art: Music Edition
Beginning in August, take a break from your day, bring your lunch and learn about the great sounds of music at the Historic Ali Cultural Arts. As you eat you will not only be introduced to music that you may not be familiar with, and then join in a group discussion about how this music makes you feel. Each melody becomes an escape from the daily stresses of life and reminds you how music is a universal language that we can all understand. Guests are invited to bring their lunch, and a friend. Free Wifi available and light refreshments will be available.

The Music Is Your Ali program is currently offering instruction in piano, guitar and drums. Students 12 and up are invited to join us each Saturday, for free 30-minute music lessons thanks, in part, to the support of the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation. Take this opportunity to grow your skill and fuel your passion!

August 29 Montage – A Film Series
Support the Reel showcases four thought-provoking films from local black filmmakers in our Tri-County region. These films, and the discussion that follows, will engage the audience in an open-ended conversation about art, history, relationships, policies, and women’s rights. This event will be moderated by Emmanuel George, a Miami native who incorporated the Black Broward Film Project in 2018 and is a passionate advocate for history and community activism.

August 29 Boys and Girls Club Art Exhibition Opening Reception
This exhibition features the artwork of the participants of summer programs from multiple Boys & Girls Clubs in the Broward County area. It allows the members to have an outlet to positively express themselves by displaying their imaginative, creative and individual talent.

August 31 Staged Play Reading - "For Colored Girls"
For Colored Girls tells the stories of seven women who have suffered oppression in a racist and sexist society. The piece is a series of 20 separate poems choreographed to music that weaves interconnected stories of love, empowerment, struggle and loss into a complex representation of sisterhood. The cast consists of seven nameless African American women only identified by the colors they are assigned---red, orange, yellow, green, blue, brown and purple. Subjects from rape, abandonment, abortion and domestic violence are tackled. Join us for a provocative night of theater and conversation!
