Each month, create, listen or watch different poems designed to spark the artist in you. Each workshop encourages you to step out of the mundane and explore your potential and escape from the daily stresses of life while remembering how beauty can be found in even the simplest of words. September 5 A Taste of Jazz
Join us for a new kind of combo! A Taste of Jazz at Bailey Contemporary Arts will feature entertaining and educational encounters with the musical genre, accompanied by wine tastings located in an intimate art gallery setting. The introduction to jazz series will showcase the musicians of the Gold Coast Jazz Society Band, under the direction of Martin Hand.

The sessions will take place from 7-9 pm on March 7, April 4, May 2, June 6, July 11 (due to the July 4th Holiday, the July event is the second Thursday), August 1, September 5, 2019. Tickets $10-$20 per event.

“A Taste of Jazz is a fun way to learn more about the celebrated musical genre without feeling intimidated or overwhelmed,” said Jody Leshinsky, Cultural Venues Programming Manager. “So many people want to learn more about this original American art form but do not know where to begin. We created this event series for them! And by adding wine tastings from local vendors, it will truly become a fun-filled social event.”

The Gold Coast Jazz Society has been a major presenter of jazz concerts, jazz education and jazz outreach programs in Broward County since 1992. They have maintained and preserved the heritage of jazz by presenting the music celebrating jazz's evolution over the past 100 years.

September 6 Old Town Untapped
Old Town Untapped is a monthly craft beer and arts festival hosted by the Pompano Beach CRA and features free samples of local beers crafted by breweries in Pompano Beach's emerging craft beer scene. In addition the streets of Old Town are lined with food trucks, artists, crafters and interactive art. Inside Bailey Contemporary Arts, guests can grab some locally roasted coffee at Blooming Bean Coffee Roasters and walk through the galleries rotating art exhibits each month.

September 7 Life Drawing Studio
Life Drawing, also referred to as Figure Drawing, is the best and quickest way to improve your drawing skills and your visual perception. Life drawing trains your eye to catch things that photos do not show. Therefore learning to master figure drawing is more than bones and muscles, it is about the subtle differences and minor details such as weight-bearing and positioning that translates to all forms.

We are excited to be able to bring this opportunity to all artists through our new Life Drawing Studio at Bailey Contemporary Arts in the City of Pompano Beach.

During this 2-hour session, live models pose draped for short "gesture" as well as longer poses. This program is ideal for individuals interested in portrait painting, character design, illustration, animation, anatomical drawing, however ALL artists benefit from Life Drawing sessions.

Artists are invited to bring their own materials and supplies.

This activity doesn’t provide formal instruction; participants work at their own pace and in their preferred medium.

Space available for 6 participants per session, so register early!

September 7 Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre
Right now you Have A Dance with Death. This 1950’s prom is a doo wop disaster! When a death on the dance floor makes this prom night a party foul, it is up to you to figure out whodunit and get this dance back on track. Trade clues with your guests, gather information about the crime, and reveal the punk that made this prom nowheresville. This night of laughter and dancing is now too heavy to razz anyone’s berries, so it’s up to you to find the murderer! Word from the bird is this is one show you will not want to miss. This night is shootin' to be swell despite the disaster. Ladies, bows and pins in your hair will go nicely with your puffy sleeved prom gowns. Gents, you will look sharp in white and black suits or tuxes. Get ready to put on your thinking caps; you’ll need your wits about you to solve this crime.

September 14 Pen and Ink Illustration Workshop
Learn techniques to combine drawing and painting in exciting ways. Explore the thrill of combining ink and water to produce intriguing translucent images. The workshop will demonstrate how to make and techniques on how to use ink wash along with sketch pen techniques to create texture. Participants will combine ink wash & pen to create a complete Pen & Ink Illustration. Work from your own or supplied photos. All supplies provided. Age: 16+

September 21 Nirvana and rise of indie music in the 90’s
Sub Pop Records co-founder Bruce Pavitt reflects on independent media and its power to change global culture. His Seattle based record label, started from humble beginnings, signed an unknown group named Nirvana which helped put Seattle “on the map.” Join Pavitt for an intimate look at what it was like in the early years, including images from his book and photography exhibit Experiencing Nirvana.

In addition to the author's presentation, there is a photography art exhibition that will be on view from July 12 – September 21.

This month, meet The Spokenword Exchange creator, poet and photographer Calvin “Madeson” Early. In the last session of our Montage Film Series, come join him for a workshop that will use videos and short film clips to show how art and life combine in different countries. The session will encompass a Q & A portion, performance from the founder, and engaging dialogue that allows us to see that though we are different, that the use of art and film has a way of bringing us together.
