September 17 Lunch with Art: Music Edition
Take a break from your day, bring your lunch and let music soothe your soul! These informative and relaxing sessions will introduce you to various forms of music, followed by a group discussion. Each melody becomes an escape from the daily stresses of life and reminds us how music is a universal language that we can all understand. Guests are invited to bring their lunch and a friend. Light refreshments are available

September 18 Lyrics Lab All Arts Open Mic
Lyrics Lab is a unique, no-ego, open-mic night every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.

September 21 Life Drawing Studio
Life Drawing, also referred to as Figure Drawing, is the best and quickest way to improve your drawing skills and your visual perception. Life drawing trains your eye to catch things that photos do not show. Therefore learning to master figure drawing is more than bones and muscles, it is about the subtle differences and minor details such as weight-bearing and positioning that translates to all forms.

We are excited to be able to bring this opportunity to all artists through our new Life Drawing Studio at Bailey Contemporary Arts in the City of Pompano Beach.

During this 2-hour session, live models pose draped for short "gesture" as well as longer poses. This program is ideal for individuals interested in portrait painting, character design, illustration, animation, anatomical drawing, however ALL artists benefit from Life Drawing sessions.

Artists are invited to bring their own materials and supplies.

This activity doesn’t provide formal instruction; participants work at their own pace and in their preferred medium.

Space available for 6 participants per session, so register early!

September 21 Nirvana and rise of indie music in the 90’s
Sub Pop Records co-founder Bruce Pavitt reflects on independent media and its power to change global culture. His Seattle based record label, started from humble beginnings, signed an unknown group named Nirvana which helped put Seattle “on the map.” Join Pavitt for an intimate look at what it was like in the early years, including images from his book and photography exhibit Experiencing Nirvana.

In addition to the author's presentation, there is a photography art exhibition that will be on view from July 12 – September 21.

The Music Is Your Ali program is currently offering instruction in piano, guitar and drums. Students 12 and up are invited to join us each Saturday, for free 30-minute music lessons thanks, in part, to the support of the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation. Take this opportunity to grow your skill and fuel your passion!

September 22 Staged Play Reading - "For Colored Girls"
For Colored Girls tells the stories of seven women who have suffered oppression in a racist and sexist society. The piece is a series of 20 separate poems choreographed to music that weaves interconnected stories of love, empowerment, struggle and loss into a complex representation of sisterhood. The cast consists of seven nameless African American women only identified by the colors they are assigned---red, orange, yellow, green, blue, brown and purple. Subjects from rape, abandonment, abortion and domestic violence are tackled. Join us for a provocative night of theater and conversation!

September 26 Montage – A Film Series
A fellow of the Sundance Institute Documentary Program, Robert Adanto earned his MFA in Acting at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He made his directorial debut with The Rising Tide in 2008, a feature-length documentary exploring the explosive Chinese contemporary art scene and continues to produce award-winning films that have been presented at international film festivals and leading museums around the globe. This month we explore his film Born Just Now, which takes an in-depth look at the Belgrade-based performance artist Marta Jovanović and her challenges.

Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art & Design Program presents Signature Event a series of Inflatable sculptures by Giants in the City installed on the lawn of the ArtsPlaza as part of a promotion for Riptide event. Visitors will take photos with the sculpture to post on social media for a chance to win tickets to Riptide.

September 28 Sabados de Salsa Series
Join us for an exciting evening of Salsa! Start out with a one-hour Latin Dance Class by Casa Salsa Dance Studios, then practice your new moves to the tunes by DJ Artie Bronx who will play the latest in Salsa, Bachata, Merengue and Cumbia in between three sets of The David Luca Band. This eight-piece salsa band performs the classics in Salsa from Adalberto Santiago, Pete “Conde” Rodriguez, Ismael Miranda, Ruben Blades, Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoe, and Cheo Feliciano. Alex Bezianis will be your master of ceremonies. This is be a night to remember! Light snacks and cash bar.
