October 11 Elefantes Blancos and Michelle Drummond Exhibitions Opening Reception
This exhibition features the painting and installation works of Cuban artist Guillermo Portieles, curated by the Latin American Art Pavillion. This artist’s paintings reflect social commentary on modernity. His use of architectural elements in his artwork represents their dual function, according to the artists, as shelters that protect us from the elements, and as mnemonic devices that house our memories. Michelle Drummond’s artwork, on exhibit on the first and second floor, exudes the true expression of life and exuberance of a woman from the islands. Originally from Jamaica, Michelle came to the U.S. to pursue an undergraduate education at St. Lawrence University in Upstate New York. While pursuing her undergraduate degree at St. Lawrence, she decided to explore fine arts as a creative outlet.
