January 10 Vantage Point by Ya La'ford - Opening Reception
Pompano Beach Cultural Center Art Gallery

Installation artist Ya Laford is best known for her signature use of wall-to-wall recurring geometric patterns including her highly regarded infusion of hypnotizing LED luminaries returns to South Florida’s Pompano Beach Cultural Arts Center activating the exhibition space with a large-scale installation to debit new virtual reality installations along with geometric sculptures relishing in abstract forms, imagery and reflections. Laford’s work finds serenity through interconnecting lines, which to her represents a metaphorical journey to communicate humanity’s unseen experiences echoed through diverse but shared accounts. Through La’ford’s work, she finds interest in the role geometry plays in the physical experience and material worlds while the synchronicity of the universe is determined by certain mathematical constants which express themselves in the form of patterns and cycles in nature.

Vantage Point exhibit will feature a new selection of imposing, welded-steel geometric installations, corresponding to the twin mural installation culminating from La’ford 1-year Pompano Beach arts residency. The exhibition also includes several illustrative works on canvas, which La’ford relates to the realized and theoretical manifestations of visual compositions that provide viewers with an encounter of coded languages in geometric form. La’ford has juxtaposed visual sensations she delves in place of community interactions among the Collier Community and organized geometric paths to interplay from a different vantage point. Vantage Point will explore and adjust the angle in which the viewer processes and experiences communities and artwork. In Vantage Point , you will find the visual rhythmic composition of Collier Community, an intellectual exercise aligned with reinterpreting our aesthetic geometric form, space, video and sound.

Opening Reception: Friday, January 10, 6pm-9pm

Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm

January 10 Thought Patterns by Lori Arbel Exhibition Opening Reception
Thought Patterns explores the inner psyche including the monotonous tasks of everyday life. Using marks and a reduced, neutral palette, the artist delves into thought patterns to question how we connect, respond, and make our mark on the world. Arbel embraces emotional introspection for content; creative expression as dialogue. Pen and ink lines, handmade paper and geometric shapes allow Arbel to express depth, texture and pattern that result in visually energetic and meditative renderings. The imperfections of the handmade paper and pop of gold illustrate metaphor, transforming sometimes negative energy into something beautiful. Her method of working is active. She places paper on a table so that she can maneuver around it from all sides. In this way, Arbel can consider composition and balance from multiple perspectives while being physically engaged with the process.
